Investment Bonds
Overview
Reading the ads in the papers and on TV, you’d think that any and every investment was the one for you. During your initial appointment we’ll talk to you about what you want and we’ll find what, in our independent expert view, are your best options.
Everyone is entitled to save tax-free. So are you taking full advantage of the Government’s generosity?
ISAs
ISAs are investments where the returns from the investment are tax free. Or put another way, there’s no Capital Gains Tax to pay on the profits your ISA makes and no Income Tax for you to pay either.
Anyone over 16 years of age can open an ISA. You can invest up to £7,200 (but not a penny more) in your ISA in any one tax year. By the way, most ISAs allow you to invest on a monthly basis, so you don’t need a large sum of money to open one.
We recommend that, if you don’t already have an ISA, setting one up should be somewhere near the top of your ‘must do’ savings list. ISAs are a great idea, but once again you’re spoiled for choice!
The easy way to narrow down your options is to ask us to do all the work and find some of the most appropriate options for you. The Government gives everyone a tax-free allowance for their savings – are you using yours?

Unit Trusts
If you’ve invested the maximum in your ISA then you could consider making alternative investments. When you invest in unit trusts you should be prepared to leave your money invested for between 5 to 10 years. Where and how you invest depends on a number of factors such as your attitude to risk (e.g. whether you prefer lower risk and lower return investments compared to higher risk investments with potentially higher returns) and whether you want capital growth or income from your investments.
Stocks and shares
This investment strategy is for people who want to invest directly in the stock market, rather than investing through a unit trust or any other type of collective investment.
If you have the time and the skills to manage your own portfolio of shares then you can do that using our fast and efficient, execution-only share dealing service. Through us you can deal over the phone, online or by post.
